Michael is an Urban Designer with extensive experience specialising in urban design and masterplanning. His expertise includes feasibility masterplanning, structure planning and design review across projects ranging from small infill developments to large, multi-stage neighbourhoods.
He began his career in surveying, graduating from the University of Otago in 2010 and working in the mining sector out of Perth. At the time, Perth was undergoing major civic and transport upgrades and he inadvertently developed an interest in urban design. He returned to Auckland to complete a Master of Urban Design at the University of Auckland in 2013 and transition into the field.
Michael has since worked in consultancy, at Auckland Council, and within the private development sector, giving him a strong understanding of commercial drivers and the application of the Auckland Unitary Plan. He is known for translating planning requirements into clear, efficient and buildable outcomes, and for working collaboratively with planners and project teams to deliver practical, well-resolved solutions.
