Ecogas Hornby Christchurch Site
SECTOR
Commercial & Industrial
LOCATION
Hornby, Christchurch
The Christchurch Office has been involved in site selection, due diligence, and resource consent applications for Ecogas’s organics processing facility at an Industrial Heavy zoned site in South Hornby, Christchurch, and follows on from the successful consenting of Ecogas’s first Anaerobic Digestion plant at Reporoa. Consents were required for land use from the Christchurch City Council and air discharges from Environment Canterbury.
The state-of-the-art facility accepts organic waste material via an anaerobic digestion process, will produce biogas, biofuel and a liquid digestate. It is the first such plant in the South Island and is intended to replace the existing organics processing facility at Bromley.
Land use consents were granted non-notified in October 2024, and the air discharge consents were granted after a limited notified hearing in August 2025.
