Te Tai Tokerau Papakāinga Toolkit / Te Tai Tokerau

In mid-2017, B&A were engaged by the Whanaketia project team to prepare a papakāinga guidance tool for Te Tai Tokerau (Northland Region). The Whanaketia team includes representatives from Far North District Council, Kaipara District Council, Northland Regional Council and Whangarei District Council. The outcome of this project was the Te Tai Tokerau Papakāinga Toolkit and associated summary brochure. The Te Tai Tokerau Papakāinga Toolkit represents an innovative collaboration between B&A and four different councils in regional New Zealand. This has resulted in two well-presented and engaging documents which will provide definite assistance to Māori land owners as they undertake papakāinga developments on their ancestral lands. It also provides a framework and first step for the creation of other guidance documents to assist Māori land owners, council staff and other key stakeholders in the future.
