The Christchurch City Council resolved to provide for the replacement, upgrade and establishment of new coastal protection works along the length of the South New Brighton and Southshore spit adjoining residential properties.

The project also included an improved walkway on top of the inundation bund and access through the proposed coastal erosion protection revetment works. Issues relating to coastal hazards, climate change, post-earthquake land subsidence, outstanding landscape features, ecologically fragile areas, including protected bird species and lizards, archaeological sites, iwi considerations and specific solutions for remaining houses were considered in a publicly notified consent application.

B&A prepared the s95 and s42A report for this publicly notified consent application on behalf of the Council.
